We noted this article in
today’s New York Times, spotlighting FM Global’s Rhode Island research lab.
The author, Hiroko Tabuchi,
visited the lab and reveled in the fun FM’s engineers and scientists have
building, breaking, exploding and burning all sorts of things in the name of
risk management. Undoubtedly, the FM Global lab is high on the chart of
most interesting places to work in the insurance business. But the work
has a serious and important side as well, as Tabuchi notes. FM Global
continues to test, probe and analyze the manner in which various building
components and products will stand up to natural disaster events, particularly
with those events coming with greater frequency and intensity in the age of
climate change.
